The New England Skateboarding Association was formed to meet the needs of skateboarders, organize the sport regionally, and to encorporate skateboarding into schools, municipalities, and other societal organizations in the Northeast Region of the United States.
Dream it.
Skateboarding was introduced into the world platform last year as it made it’s debut in the 2021 Tokyo Olypmics. The world watched as comraderie, not fierce competiveness, was the driving factor between all countries. The motivation to see other skateboarders perform well is an inherint quality of skateboarding, now seen by the world.
Build it.
The springboard of the Olympics, as well as skateboarding’s accessibility throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has been instrumental in it’s growth. Now, municipalities and schools nationwide have taken notice, and are ready to participate. The New England Skateboarding Association has been working with these organizations with now multiple, successful programs in place.
Grow it.
As skateboarding grows, the need to organize is only helpful. It creates steady contest series that can funnel to national and world championships. It exposes skateboarding to an audience that may have never had the chance to try it otherwise. It educates the public on the nuances of the sport as a craft and artform, as these things get lost through media and mass exploitation of skateboarding.
Schools.
NESA founder Bill Strecker comes from a design background. In 2021 he developed a gym-safe skateboard that would help skateboarding cross the threshold from an outdoor sport, to an indoor sport suitable for expensive gym floors and other indoor surfaces -without harm to the floors. The boards were a success and programs were adopted immediately by multiple schools. Along with long time skate coach Craig Evans, they developed a curriculum with lesson plans that meet State and National Physical Education Standards.
Municipalities.
By the summer of 2021, the New England Skateboarding Association will be working with 5 municipalities, offering summer camps, clinics, camp enrichment, workshops, and skatepark upgrades. Skateboarding programs can now be run year long with the introduction of the gym-safe skateboards to the organization.
Share it.
The New England Skateboarding Association has been formed to share skateboarding, plain and simple. Connecting skateboarders throughout New England through contest series, skate camps, municipal programs, and school wellness programs.
